Drenthe officieel voorgedragen als European Community of Sport 2019

ACES Europe is de sport-uitvoeringsorganisatie van de Europese Unie, ieder jaar worden een sporthoofdstad, sportsteden en sportregio’s gekozen. Drenthe zou bij uitverkiezing de eerste Nederlandse sportregio ooit worden. Henk Jumelet (gedupteerde van de Provincie) en Roger de Groot (voorzitter VDG Sport Drenthe) onderstrepen het belang van de titel Community of Sports voor Drenthe. “Met deze titel is het nog makkelijker verbindingen leggen en kunnen we gemeenten helpen met de inzet van sport en bewegen; Sport Inclusive zijn.”, zegt Roger de Groot. Henk Jumelet benoemt vooral nog eens de verregaande samenwerking die er in Drenthe is en het teamresultaat waar de gemeenten en de Provincie voor gaan. “We zijn bescheiden in Drenthe, maar met deze titel kunnen we die bescheidenheid even van ons afgooien en laten zien dat we goed bezig zijn op het gebied van sport.”

Op 4 december wordt in Brussel de titel officieel uitgereikt, tijdens het jaarlijkse ACES Europe Award Gala in het Europese Parlement.

Drenthe is aiming for European Community of Sport title

ACES Europe is a non-profit association based in Brussels which assigns every year since 2001 the recognitions of European Capital, City, Community and Town of Sport. Drenthe will be, if rewarded, the first Dutch Sport Region ever. Henk Jumelet (deputy of Province of Drenthe) and Roger de Groot (chairman VDG Sport Drenthe) underline the importance of the title Community of Sport for Drenthe. “With the title it will be even more easy to connect and help municipalities with effort on sports and exercise; to be sport inclusive.”, says Roger de Groot. Henk Jumelet appoints especially the far-reaching cooperation that we have in Drenthe and the teamresults where the Province and municipalities are aiming for. “We are modest in Drenthe, with this title we can loose this modesty an show that we make a good effort when it comes to sport.”

On the 4th of december the title will officialy be rewarded during the ACES European Award gala in the European Parlement in Brussels.
